Loss of Tissue Leading To Scars
February 14th, 2009
On one side we read that excess tissue formation leads to scarring, but a loss of tissue may also lead to various kinds if scars. These scars are like the scars that are left after small and chicken pox. They are very common, in fact more common that the keloids.
Ice-pick scars are the small jagged and steep scar that we usually locate on people’s cheek. They can be treated by stretching the skin. They are hard and soft both. But the hard ice-pick scars are difficult to stretch out.
There is another type of scar which is very big, sharp edged and with steep sides. This scar is firm to touch near the base. Sometime, the ice-pick scars take this form over time. This type of scar is called a depressed fibrotic scar.
There are some scars that are soft to touch and may be deep seated or superficial. These are called soft scars. These are characterized by sloping, rolling edges, mingling with the normal skin. They are small, linear or dome shaped.
Many people have big scars in their back and upper arms and the buttocks. These scars are the big atrophic macules, which are much smaller on the face. They are bluish in color as the veins lie just below it. They turn white overtime and become negligible in fair skinned people, but shows even then in dark skinned people.
