Food and Acne
March 12th, 2008Some people say that certain foods don’t mix well with acne during breakouts. Foods like chocolates and those rich in fatty oils and iodine, for example. While some of them don’t actually cause acne breakouts, they do cause skin aggravation. So avoiding what kinds of food to eat while you have these blemishes is a good way to help in improving your skin.
What Not To Eat
Carbs and Sugar. Refined carbohydrates and sugar causes insulin, which means increase in hormonal activities, and can then lead to the production of more sebum, leading to acne.
Too much fruit. Too much fruit can upset the acidity and PH balance of our skin.
Dairy. Eat with caution as they can aggravate or worsen your acne during flare-ups.
Caffeine and Alcohol. Caffeine and alcohol are generally not good for the body if taken in excess. They can dehydrate your skin making it dry and prone to acne.
Fatty Foods. Foods rich in oil and fat can affect acne. These make it hard for our digestive system to breakdown, which can lead to clogged pores and excess oil on the surface of our skin.
What To Eat
Vegetables rich in beta-carotene, whole grains, low-fat proteins, fruits low in citrus, and those that can be eaten fresh are generally helpful in reducing acne. Taking vitamins and minerals help too, for excellent skin health. Vitamins such as A, C and E are good anti-oxidants and brings great benefits to our skin. Vitamins B, D, calcium, zinc, iron, sodium, magnesium and phosphorus are among others that contribute to a healthy body.
