Cystic Acne - What is it?
March 6th, 2008Cystic Acne is the most severe form of acne characterized by hard, inflamed bumps containing pus-like substance that develops into cysts. It is considered as the harshest and most painful form of acne
It is not a common type of acne, though there are still many that suffer from it. Like other types of acne, it is caused by excess buildup of oil and sebum in the glands, therefore clogging the skin’s pores. This is the type of acne that generally leaves permanent scars on your skin.
How to Treat Cystic Acne
Cystic acne can be treated just like any other form of acne. Over the counter medications and topical creams can do the trick in most cases. Peeling and oral medications are also advisable, however, be sure to consult a dermatologist before trying out any of these products. The only thing to watch out for is scarring and even so, there are many varieties of ways to help remove them.
Tips
The most important advice in reducing a case of cystic acne is not to be tempted to prick those pimples. Popping these blemishes will release the liquid inside the bump, causing it to spread to the surrounding area, which will then lead to infection and a probable case of another round of acne to flare.
